Sep. 6

Happy Labor Day!  I hope you all had a fun and relaxing weekend.
Here are the upcoming objectives and dates for the week:

Math: This week we are working on order of operations and simplifying expressions and solving equations.   Your child will have math notes in their math journals to review. Here is a great video to help preview what we will be learning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAgfnK528RA We will have a problem solving quiz on Friday.

Reading: This week we are beginning our first Book Clubs.  The students will be assigned a book to read with their groups and required to keep up with their 'bookmarks' that focus on specific skills.  This bookmark will focus on developing questions and summarizing the text. Your kids brought home their first Spelling list last Friday. Both Spelling and Quizlet tests are on this Friday.

Science: We are beginning our unit on Matter and its properties.  We will focus on what matter is, what it isn't, the main states of matter, and changes in states of matter.  Here are some great videos to review for Matter.
Study Jams Science You will see scrolling topics under science.  Find the one on Matter.  The three videos I suggest are: Properties of Matter, Solids Liquids Gases, and Physical and Chemical Changes in Matter.

Social Studies: We are continuing our unit on Early Explorers and also covering essential map skills, which despite technological advances, really come in good use! Our social studies essay will be due on Wednesday. Be as creative in your final project as possible! This is our first display project!
