September 4-7


WHAT AN AWESOME FIRST WEEK! I truly enjoyed my first week with you all. It was so nice to get to know you and learn new things about you. I already know it is going to be a great year.

Reminders:
·         Parents if you have any more paperwork left at home please turn it in ASAP.
·         Please remind your children how they will be going home every day.
·         No school September 10th
·         Curriculum Night/Open House will be September 13th at 6 PM
·         Half day/early dismissal September 21st

What’s coming up next week?

Math:
·         Prime, composite, factors
·         Powers of 10 multiplication
·         Multiplying by 2-3 digit numbers (Check out the videos!) 
·         Estimation with 2 digit divisors
·         Division of compatible numbers

- PLEASE PLEASE practice multiplication facts to build stamina and speed à here is a great website for games Multiplication Games  à I also have flashcards if your child wishes to borrow them

- Problem Solving Quiz on Friday (your child has taken a practice problem solving quiz already, so they will know what it looks like)

English/Language Arts/Reading: Continue Chains read aloud: Quiz on Thursday
-Writing letters
-Reading Daily (minimum of 20 minutes of reading)
-Quizlet Test Week 2/Spelling Test on Friday

Science: Scientific Method (variables, controls, experimental design) and Science Tools

Social Studies: Age of Discovery

·         Migration to the New World
·         Letter to Spain/England

Welcome to fifth grade!


Welcome to fifth grade! I am so excited to have you in my class. It was wonderful to meet you yesterday.

Here is some additional information about our class:
School starts promptly at 7:30 and ends at 2:50.
Ancillary: 8:35-9:25
Lunch: 12:18-12:45 (Parents may join students at lunch starting September 17th)
Science lab on Thursdays; Library on Fridays

Rainy Day Dismissal: During times of inclement weather, Parent Walk-Up students are dismissed from inside the building in designated locations.
Parents can enter the building from the following doors:
·         Red doors facing Greenbriar near flag pole
·         Doors near the covered basketball court
Parents may not enter via front doors on School Street.
