CAMP!!!!!
5th grade camp at Camp Olympia is coming up next
week, and we are SO excited! Here are some reminders for the trip.
Packing:
-
Packing in a large strong garbage bag is
best. Students will be spending lots of time outside; their things will
get dirty and possibly wet. Pack an extra plastic bag for wet things to
come home in.
-
Please label the garbage bag with duct tape –
Student’s name, and “Roberts.”
-
Students need closed-toed, sturdy shoes.
No sandals for walking around camp. They can bring flip flops for the
shower if they wish.
-
Pack a raincoat! Many activities will
continue if it’s raining.
-
Medicine – all medicine sent to camp must have
been approved by a doctor on the camp form. Medicine must be in original
pharmacy containers, placed in a Ziploc bag labeled with student’s name and
“Roberts.”
-
DO NOT BRING: food, candy, gum, money,
electronic devices, cell phones, weapons of any kind (including Swiss army
knives, etc.) anything of great monetary or sentimental value.
-
Do not bring cameras – aside from the
possibility of getting lost or broken, some students do not want their pictures
taken. Teachers will take pictures of students if they wish.
-
Students have asked about bringing stuffed
animals or special pillows. Small such items are ok, however, if the item
getting lost or dirty beyond washing would be heart-breaking, it’s best to
leave it at home!
Travel:
-
Students should arrive at school on Tuesday by
8:00 AM as usual, and go to their classrooms with their bag. As soon as
buses arrive, we will board and head off to camp!
-
Students are expected to return to Roberts on
Thursday by 3:00 pm. We will notify parents when students are
returning.
At Camp:
The HISD Outdoor Education Center has a full staff experienced in helping
students from all over Houston have a great time at camp. Students will
be well fed and very busy during the day! They will be tired and ready to
sleep at night, and come home on Thursday with lots of stories about their
adventures.
*** We need 3 parent chaperones to ride the buses both
Tuesday and Thursday. It involves the following:
-
Tuesday, Oct. 24th - being at Roberts at 8:30,
riding the bus up to Camp Olympia (2 hours), then riding the bus back, should
be back at Roberts at least by 2:00.
-
Thursday, Oct. 26th - same thing - buses will
come to Roberts first at 8:15 – 8:30 to pick up teachers and chaperones, drive
to camp, pick up kids, and then drive back, at school by 3:00 PM
-
Must be VIPS approved.
-
You can be on a different bus than your child if
you think that’s best!
Please email Kelly Wehrer at kwehrer@houstonisd.org if you can be a
bus chaperone.
